David M. Crowley

Dave received his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Boston College and his Juris Doctor degree from Boston College Law School. He is a member of the Massachusetts bar as well as the bars of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Before founding Scannell & Crowley, LLP in 1998, he practiced for many years at Dolbec, McGrath, Crowley, and White in Boston. He has tried numerous cases in state and federal courts. He has served as an American Arbitration Association arbitrator, an appraiser, and a referee in resolving disputed property insurance claims. His services as a referee have been by the nomination of both insurers and insureds and upon appointment by the Massachusetts Division of Insurance.

During his career, Dave has primarily represented insurers in first-party property insurance coverage analysis, opinion, and defense, as well as in substantial property insurance subrogation claims and litigation. He is respected for his expertise and for the advice and opinions he gives to his clients. He has represented numerous individuals and businesses both as plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation. He is an MCLE-certified mediator.

He has taught college courses and has made numerous presentations to insurance companies, the Insurance Institute, The Adjusters Roundtable of Boston, The Massachusetts Association of Realtors, and other trade associations and professional associations in the fields of law, property insurance, and real estate law. He has served as a judge in law school moot court competitions and mediation competitions.

​For many years, he served as chairman of the Melrose Historic District Commission and as a coach in little league baseball, youth soccer, and youth hockey. He is functionally conversant in French, Italian, and Russian.
